Zusammenfassung

Das Burnout-Syndrom ist durch die Symptomtrias Erschöpfung, mentale Distanzierung von der Arbeitstätigkeit sowie einem Gefühl der Ineffektivität charakterisiert. Das Syndrom stellt keine eigenständige psychische Störung dar, kann jedoch in der 10. Revision der Internationalen statistischen Klassifikation der Krankheiten und verwandter Gesundheitsprobleme (ICD-10) als Problem mit Bezug auf Schwierigkeiten bei der Lebensbewältigung (Z73) sowie in der ICD-11 als qualifizierende Diagnose (QD85) kodiert werden. Dieser Beitrag erörtert Prävalenz und Komorbiditäten des Burnout-Syndroms unter Berücksichtigung der methodischen Schwierigkeiten in der Konzeptualisierung und Operationalisierung des Konstrukts. Darüber hinaus bietet er einen Überblick über verfügbare Messinstrumente sowie deren Validierung. Weiterhin wird auf arbeitsbedingte sowie individuelle Bedingungsfaktoren in der Entstehung des Burnout-Syndroms sowie Wirksamkeitsanalysen von Behandlungsmöglichkeiten eingegangen.
